Streeterville includes the Magnificent Mile (Chicago’s largest shopping district) and the area east of it all the way to Lake Michigan. Named for 19th Century eccentric and ship captain, George Streeter who tried once to slyly name claim to the land, Streeterville today includes most of Chicago’s tallest skyscrapers and the upscale restaurants, hotels and theaters that go along with them. Along with the Magnicificent Mile, attractions abound in Streeterville and include Navy Pier, home to shopping, exhibits, general entertainment and a famous Ferris wheel; the Tribune Tower, home of the city’s largest newspaper; and Water Tower Place, a popular commercial building that includes a large shopping mall. Residences in Streeterville tend to be large high-rise apartment complexes including both modern and early-century styles.
